How can I be sure my child gets individual attention?
Our class sizes are limited, so every child is treated as an individual and encouraged to develop at their own level. More often than not we write our own scripts, this ensures that each child is actively involved, with a character part and a specific role to play in each production.
What are Lamda Exams and Lamda Qualifications?
As part our acting classes we encourage our students to take LAMDA examinations in performance and speech. These nationally recognised qualifications start with an introductory syllabus and progress all the way up to teenagers taking gold medal examinations. Do you have a Uniform?
Our only uniform is a Direct Theatre School T-shirt which can be purchased through the school.We ask that all students for both term time classes and holiday schools purchase a Direct Theatre School T-shirt. Cost vary depending an size and are priced between £8.00 - £12.00
What opportunities will my child have to perform?
Performance is at the heart of what we do at Direct theatre School. Most of our regular classes culminate in an end of term show and we stage at least six productions each year.
Do you offer free trial classes?
We offer Three 4 Free! We understand that children often take a while to settle into a new activity or class. We offer a free trial period of up to three weeks. New pupils can take part in any of our classes and experience first hand what we do before deciding to join.
Do auditions, rehearsals and productions cost any extra?
No. All the costs for rehearsals and productions are included in your terms fees.
We do ask parents to purchase tickets for the show and encourage you to bring as many friends and family as possible. The proceeds from ticket sales help cover the costs of the shows… besides, we expect you want to show off your talented kids!
Do we have to provide or purchase any costumes?
Basic things e.g. black trousers, footwear. The company provide costume for all our productions at no extra cost.
What is your child protection policy?
Our current child protection policy is available on request. All our staff our CRB checked and a qualified first aider is present at all classes and Holiday projects.
When can my child start?
Pupils are welcome to join us at any time of the year. You don’t need to wait for the beginning of a term to join our classes. If you are joining just before a production we will write you in and make sure you have a line!
When do I pay?
Invoices are issued at the beginning of each term. If you child starts a class during the middle of the term parents are only billed for the remaining weeks of that term.
Are you a member of National Association of Youth Theatres?

Festival Entries
Each year in the Summer Term Direct Theatre School students have the opportunity to take part in the annual Bournemouth Music Festival Competition. There are a range of performance categories available to all ages ranging from Poetry Recital to Shakespeare Acting. If your child chooses to enter the competitions, you will pay the festival entry fees directly to Bournemouth Music Festival by cheque.
