About Us
Juliette Malan and Peter Courtenay formed Direct Theatre in 2001. We wanted to provide a platform in which local young people were given a true sense of what it is to be part of an active working theatre company, whilst producing quality drama to the highest standards. Each member of Direct Theatre has the opportunity to take an active role in at least two productions a year. We aim to provide a positive, fun environment where each child is encouraged to develop their own individual skills, whilst performing in regular shows.
Juliette Malan
Has trained and worked as a professional actress and is also an experienced teacher and director who has worked with a number of youth theatre groups across the south. She has a large list of directing credits to her name. A qualified LAMDA teacher, she has also taught in several local schools.
Peter Courtenay
Has worked as a professional actor in theatre, radio, television and film for over twenty years. An experienced workshop leader, Peter has worked with a variety of groups including The Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke, Bournemouth Theatre in Education and Regents Park Open Air Theatre, London, New Shakespeare Company Education Department. Peter specialises in the teaching of improvisation for performance. He has perfomed with a variety improvisation companies including ‘The Undersigned’ and 'The Spontaneity Shop' in a variety of venues across London.
Moira Clark
Is a theatre practitioner and performer who has specialised in devised performance and physical theatre. She trained at Dartington College of Arts, gaining a BA Hons in Theatre and has since worked on a variety of projects as a performer, theatre practitioner and youth theatre director/ workshop leader. In the past she has worked as Director in Residence at The Millfield School, and as a theatre lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College. Currently she works for her own production company ''Burnt Toast'' alongside a music performance duo 'ESKIMO', who perform in the local area. www.eskimomusic.co.uk
